Welcome to the 13th International Symposium of Byzantine Sigillography!

The 13th International Symposium of Byzantine Sigillography will be held in Cologne from 27 to 29 March 2025. This event is organized within the framework of the research project "Unlocking the Hidden Value of Seals: New Methodologies for Historical Research in Byzantine Studies (DigiByzSeal)". Launched in 2022 and jointly funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and the French National Research Agency (ANR), the project aims to pioneer innovative approaches to the study of Byzantine seals.

With over 30 speakers representing 15 institutions worldwide, the symposium aims to unite specialists in Byzantine sigillography. These experts will explore diverse facets of the discipline, including administrative history, art history, prosopography, and more.

We are deeply grateful to the DFG, the ANR, and the Zentrum für Mittelalterstudien of the University of Cologne (ZEMAK) for their generous financial support, which has made this symposium possible.
